Fab Friday — All Things Williams Sonoma

I think come November, you are going to think “Aly – c’mon – it’s WINTER – stop crowin’ about fall finds” but I figure that while I can showcase fall items, I’m going to do it

This week’s Fab Friday choices are from one of my favorite happy places – Williams-Sonoma.  I spent some serious time there this week fondling the new displays, kitchen islands, looking at new items, etc. and I have to say – GET THEE TO WILLIAMS-SONOMA STAT – even if it is to stock up on their famous Butternut Squash puree (which, btw, make EXCELLENT butternut squash ravioli – just a thought).

x Fab Friday All Things Williams Sonoma

First of all, I am really miffed that the Nine West stores are no longer in Cherry Hill or King of Prussia malls. I would have LOVED to rock this Nine West Mavenue bootie for NYCWFF or for Tuesday’s book signing. Boots and I are funny friends – they have to fit and I can’t buy them sight unseen with certain brands because of size variances. Oh well – I’ll just have to order them for the day to day. Check out that detailing on the heel… Love!

Pieces from Williams-Sonoma’s Heirloom Pumpkin Serveware Collection – especially the Dipping Bowls – will be a must for the Thanksgiving table. Perfect colors – not too cutsey and, yes, I do have a pumpkin candy dish on an end table that I feel adds a touch of whimsy. I’m not going to pull a Sandra Lee and tell you to tablescape everything but if you like fall details, why not incorporate them into your décor, right? Who knows, I might even use the dipping bowls on a desk to hold odds and ends. All I know is that it makes me smile when I see it.

While we are on the subject of tableware, how stunning is this Venezia Wooden 3 Tier Stand. Simple yet elegant.

How do you store your onions, potatoes and garlic? I keep my onions and garlic in a bronze basket on my (little to no room) countertop and I have a potato canister that isn’t as elegant looking as this. I am over the moon about this Potato, Onion & Garlic Storage Canister Set that is on my “must get” list. If anything it will make my kitchen look just a bit more “together.”

You know I had to reference the pumpkin & butternut squash products again at WS, right? Well they are in stock and ready for your pantry. My favorites include the Pumpkin Parmesan Pasta Sauce, the Pumpkin Curry Simmering Sauce, and, of course, the Butternut Squash puree. I stock up on these in the fall/winter because they often sell out and use them throughout the year. Who says pumpkin is only good for fall, right? They haven’t gotten their Apple Cranberry Orange relish in stores yet but when they do, my happy behind is adding that to the stockpile!

Finally, as I’ve said before, I cannot wait to add Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain Cookbook Fab Friday All Things Williams Sonoma to the cookbook shelf come Tuesday. Bobby will be at the Williams Sonoma in King of Prussia this Tuesday, so Philly peeps, hope to see you there. More details about his cookbook tour are HERE.

What are you obsessed with this week?

Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival Is Just Around The Corner

NYCWFF2011Logo

NYCWFF2011Logo 300x152 Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival Is Just Around The Corner

I was looking at my calendar the other day and noticed that the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival is coming up fast. I seriously don’t know where the time went. One minute we were at SOBE, the next the Atlantic City Wine & Food Festival sipping on some Bourbon Cider cocktails and now I have some serious wardrobe planning for NYCWFF. There’s something about being in New York City during the crisp fall months – it’s pure magic from the minute you arrive.

Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival   kicks off September 29, 2011 through October 2, 2011 and is one of my favorite events for fall. We’re talking socializing with fellow foodies, learning tips and tricks from Food Network/Cooking Channel chefs, amazing nibbles and sips and some seriously cool experiences.  Last year was two jam packed days of demos, panels, milling through the enormous Grand Tasting tent, a master cooking class with Alex Guarnaschelli, Chelsea Market shopping (oh the cookbooks I brought home – my poor bookshelf!).  Not to mention, I quickly learned the 10 Commandments for attending NYCWFF which I will be following religiously!   NYCWFF was one of my highlights of 2010.

There are still tickets on sale for the 2011 NYCWFF and this time they are holding the demos at the Tasting Tents instead of individual venues.  Basically, you get to attend the demos, sample various dishes and cocktails all for one low price. Check out the lineup for Sunday’s demos at the Grand Tasting: Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Sunny Anderson, Anne Burrell, Anthony Bourdain, and on and on and on. Yes, I know – it’s the price of a pair of Tory Burch flats but trust me when I say it’s WELL WORTH IT!

Plus, only at NYCWFF will you get to go bowling with Chef Anne Burrell, tour the Chelsea Market after dark with Emeril, nosh on stone crab from Miami’s George’s Stone Crab with Claire Robinson, cocktails and caviar with the Cooking Channel’s Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos and no Food Network festival would be complete with the Neelys’ brunch.

OK – so with that said, who’s going? It’s going to be an amazing time – Lee Schrager and Food Network throw one heck of a party with memories that will last a lifetime!

Bobby Flay To Visit Philadelphia

BF-Throwdown

BF Throwdown 150x150 Bobby Flay To Visit PhiladelphiaThe holidays are fast approaching and, with that, are the celebrity chefs that will be on tour promoting their new cookbooks. I heard from a little bird that Food Network’s Bobby Flay will be visiting the Philadelphia area for a book signing of his new cookbook, Bobby Flay’s Throwdown!: More Than 100 Recipes from Food Network’s Ultimate Cooking Challenge Bobby Flay To Visit Philadelphia.

On Bobby’s tour schedule: two Williams-Sonoma locations – King of Prussia and  The Bellevue in Center City.   I was told that this will be a ticketed event and tickets go on sale on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Now, if you have ever been to these events, they do sell out quickly so you need to make sure you get your ticket early. I learned my lesson last year for an event with Martha Stewart. 350 people alone showed up for that one – don’t even get me started when Thomas Keller visited King of Prussia.

The event at King of Prussia starts at 1:00 p.m. and Center City’s Williams-Sonoma will start their signing with Bobby at 6:00 p.m. If you are going, let us know in the comments!

Here’s the full tour schedule from his publisher at Random House.

SOBE 2009: I’m So Excited…

No, don’t worry – I won’t break into a rendition of the track from The Pointer Sisters.  I’m not THAT cruel and, of course, my singing is banned here in the Sunshine State.

Tomorrow I’m headed down to sunny South Beach for the 2009 Food Network’s South Beach Food & Wine Festival.  Granted, I’m crazy tired from the daily grind but when a gal hears that some of her fave personalities (and bloggers) will be in the area, well then – one needs to go.

Sadly, one of my fave chefs/blogger buds, Bren won’t be attending this year (girl – you better be going to the NY event!) but, don’t worry B. – I’ll be texting from the stands.

I pinky swore that I’d take pics and, don’t worry – I’m armed with cameras, cell phone, etc.  I plan on catching as many of the chef demos as I can.  Tomorrow they have:  Sunny Anderson, Ingrid Hoffman, Michael Symon, Marcus Samuelsson, Anne Burrell, Morimoto, Tyler Florence, the Neelys, Cat Cora, Paula Dean, Bobby Flay etc. etc.  As quite a few of these peeps are on my Tivo on the regular, I’m going to be bouncing from stage to stage.  However, as Bobby Flay is closing the show – I don’t know if I can catch his demo however, I will try (if time allows.  Sadly, I still have a 4 hour drive back and have to be home Sun. night… :::sigh:::)   Somehow, I also need to hit up those tents too to give you the inside scoop.  So, the stilettos are NOT going with – those can be saved for another day.

If you want to catch some great pics and updated intel, check out  Sunny Anderson’s blog (she’s got some great backstage shots) and Jacob over at Food Network Addict.

Can’t wait – talk to y’all on Monday!!!

A Night At Amada…

One of my favorite chefs is Jose Garces. I’ve heard rave reviews about his restaurants. His cookbook, Latin Evolution, is like art. And, to boot, the man spanked Bobby Flay HARD on Iron Chef America. So I knew that during my trip to Philly last month, I’d have to go to his restaurant, Amada. Amada is a Spanish tapas restaurant in Olde City, Philadelphia which was just a hop, skip and a jump from my hotel at Penn’s Landing.

I have to say, Amada lived up to their buzz – the restaurant was all that and then some. The ambiance was intimate and rustic. From the moment you enter through the flowing draperies at the front door, staff greets you like an old friend welcoming you to dinner. Now, while I love Italian cooking, I’m also fond of Spanish cooking. After all, one of my signature dishes is Arroz Con Pollo.

Now, let’s get to the fun stuff – the food. After much contemplation, the menu items selected were:

  • Patatas Bravas (Spicy Potatoes), a dish of potatoes topped with this amazing paprika aioli which I will be attempting to recreate this weekend. It was smoky with a bit of heat that just made you close your eyes and relish the flavors;
  • The Croquetas de Jamon (Ham Croquettes) were good, but I wanted more of the Patatas Bravas; and
  • Costillas de Ternera is a Spanish flatbread topped with Beef Shortribs, Bacon, Parmesan and Horseradish. This is another dish I’m going to attempt to try for the next soiree because the flavors were a perfect mix. It was divine.

Of course I had to have some Merlot but Julie, the fab bartender, also suggested that I try their homemade sangria. If I had thought about it, I would have ordered that instead of the merlot. They have three sangrias – a white, a red and a seasonal. The seasonal selection was a spiced apple sangria which was insanely good. While Julie and I were talking, I mentioned the Foodbuzz New Years Eve 24, 24, 24 event that I was hosting and, with thanks to her, she gave me some wonderful suggestions which turned out perfect.

Sadly, I did not take any pictures of my visit there but I will be sure to take them on the next trip as this has hit my list of “Absolute Fave Restaurants” and I will be going back. However, the Ultimate Epicure reviewed the restaurant and took some AMAZING photos which you must see HERE.

Much thanks to everyone at Amada. It was a meal to remember…
