One of the things I’m so thankful for is my Dancin’ on Air/Dance Party USA Alumni family. We have been getting together over the years to celebrate various birthdays, marraiges or just because. With the resurgance of popularity of the show due to the recent Dancin’ on Air marathons and the vids popping up online recently, the alumni decided to put our best dancin’ foot forward and “party with a purpose”.

With the plethora of sample sales & daily deal sites out there, my inbox (and, by default, wallet) has been screaming for mercy. However, when I got wind a while ago about a new site about to launch – Eat. Shop. Give. – I was excited to see what they had in store and, true to form, they did NOT disappoint.
Cancer has always been a cause near and dear to my heart and the peeps over at Alex’s Lemonade Stand is one of my favorite charities. This morning, when I heard that Eat. Shop. Give.’s first deal was to one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Bourbon Blue, and that a portion of the proceeds was being donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, it was a no-brainer. Currently, Eat. Shop. Give. is locally based, serving Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, but, speaking for myself, I really hope they go national. This is a company that I really believe in with a clear and concise mission – to provide great deals and give back to the local community.
I’m sorry Groupon and Living Social – I think I’ll be reading Eat. Shop. Give.’s email first thing every morning. After all, I get a great deal, help out a fantastic charity and all sans guilt. For this stiletto gal, that’s a purchase with a purpose and a perfect way to shop.
I don’t know about you, but when the quake and tsunami hit Japan, my eyes were glued to CNN and my heart broke when I saw images of the devastation. There were heart wrenching photos of children crying, people left homeless, and a country in shock. With news of yet another quake that affected Japan today, the time to help is now!
A bunch of Top Chef alums, led by the original Stiletto Chef, Candice Kumai, are participating in a benefit Eat, Pray, Heal Japan: A Night to Benefit the Children of Japan next Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Bowery Hotel in NYC. It will be an evening to remember with celebrity chefs, light bites, music, open bar and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit UNICEF and the tickets are $75 before the event, $100 at the door. C’mon – you know a decent pair of stilettos will run you much more than that.
Some of the Top Chef family that will be in attendance are Candice Kumai, Harold Dieterle, Angelo Sosa, Hung Huynh, Mike Isabella, Kevin Sbraga, Lee Ann Wong and Top Chef: Desserts Seth Caro. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Bowery Hotel, 335 Bowery, New York, NY 10003. Tickets can be purchased and donations made through the event link HERE.

Tiffany of I Am Style-ish posted about the Bloggers Day of Silence and I knew that I had to participate. When it comes to news events, the blogging community is always there for those in need and Japan needs our assistance. I was transfixed to the news last week when the earthquake happened and, every night, I have to say a little prayer for those that are affected by the events caused by the earthquake & the tsunami as well as their family and friends around the world.
So, I’m sure you will understand that Fab Friday this week will be postponed as Cooking In Stilettos will be taking part in the Bloggers Day of Silence tomorrow, March 18, 2011 and I ask that you please open your hearts and donate to those that really need your help. If you haven’t heard about Stir It 28, you need to check this out. Fabulous food bloggers and companies have aligned to make a 4 city culinary event. This is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and New York City.

Food bloggers from coast to coast have join forces to raise a targeted $50k to aid in the Haiti relief effort. STIR IT 28: Food Bloggers Align for Haiti Relief is a culinary event taking place simultaneously in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C., on Sunday, February 21st from 4:00pm to 7:00pm EST and 4:00pm to 7:00pm PST in Los Angeles. , One hundred percent of the proceeds from the campaign will benefit Share Our Strength and Yéle Haiti. Participating chefs, food bloggers, restaurateurs and home cooks from each city will prepare incredible and diverse dishes and luscious cocktails for guests to enjoy.
As part of the campaign, donations are being accepted during the entire month of February for those who are unable to attend one of the nation-wide events. Donations can be made via PayPal and advanced tickets to any of the 5 events can be purchased by visiting flanboyanteats.com or cococooks.blogspot.com. Tickets are $30 in advance, with limited door sales in each city.

“It’s a day of solidarity and a way for the culinary community to celebrate life, hope and restoration to the island through food,” saysBren Herrera, a Cuban native whom is familiar with the plights of third world islands suffering from poverty and hunger.
The Atlanta event will be hosted by Bren Herrera in historic West End at SPACE Atlanta, with live entertainment and a DJ, two cash bars serving a signature cocktail called “Stir it Up.” Serpas True Food (GQ magazine top 10 new U.S Restaurants) is a featured participating restaurant offering Creole cuisine, among other notable restaurants and chefs. Montaluce Winery is donating wine for the event, as well. The Los Angeles event will be hosted by Chrystal Baker and held at the private home of Greg at SippitySup.com in the Hollywood Hills. Grey Goose vodka and LA brand attaché Christophe Namer partner with Natalie Bovis-Nelsen of TheLiquidMuse.com to create signature cocktails, as well as specialty sangrias from Fre Alcohol-Removed Wine and Sutter Home Wine. Chicago will be hosted by Courtney Nzeribe at Three Peas Art Lounge, while NYC will be held at the NYU Department of Nutrition & Food Studies. D.C. details to come.

I’m sure many people have texted, donated and come up with some great ideas to get aid to Haiti. My heart broke when I saw the images on the television of people suffering – and through it all I was grateful for the many blessings I have.
So, I’ve decided that this weekend’s posts will be spotlighting some great events, ideas and more that might inspire you to reach out and pay it forward.
One of my fave fashion bloggers, Tiffany of I.Am.Stylish recently posted about her brother who had a birthday wish – to raise money for Haiti. Now I know this is a cooking/entertaining blog but I had to spotlight – technically she does blog about stilettos so that ties in with Cooking In Stilettos, right? Well, I’m happy to say that her brother has raised over $13,000 so far and they are still raising funds. Now that is some serious outreach. Tiffany decided to sweeten the pot and offer one of her amazing photographs for a donation over $20.00 to Doctors Without Borders. Every little bit counts!
As I am OBSESSED with all things Loubou, you know I had to go with a Loubou print. However, if she should start selling her prints, I would totally scope up the Gucci one as well – both would look fabulous for every fashionista’s wall. Not to mention, her other photographs are out of this world.
