Fab Friday — Cooking In Stilettos Edition

Yes, I’m still hot under the collar about the All My Children cancellation last week but, in the spirit of Fab Fridays – I will soldier on.  So, let us get in the mood for a relaxing weekend with some fab finds including, of course, some fantastic shoes!

1.  These Dolce Vita Carrie Multi-Strap Fringe Sandals almost gave me heart palpitations – they are unique, chic and just have that *wow* factor.  Plus, the price isn’t so bad either.  I swear – nude shoes have totally outranked the number of black shoes in my shoe arsenal.

2.  For you gals that adore all things pink, did you see this Kitchen Aid Artisan Susan G. Komen Stand Mixer in Raspberry Ice?  Now this is a gorgeous mixer that will garner all the right attention!

3.  I am DETERMINED to get my deck garden to flourish this year and one of my must have purchases is a Meyer Lemon Tree.  I’m so annoyed to buy Meyer Lemons at the store to only have them go moldy in a day or two – who knows how long those Meyer Lemons are on the truck to the store, right?  At least if I can cure my black thumb, perhaps I can only go a few paces out the back door to get the perfect ingredient to brighten most any dish.

4. I have to confess, being a recovering publicist has me a bit jaded.  When I hear of a celebrity cookbook, I tend to see right through it.  It’s all about marketing and branding nowadays.  I remember one “celeb” who released a cookbook and on one of their appearances, they didn’t even know their own recipes.  C’mon now – if you are going to promote something as your own and swear YOU wrote the book – well then, KNOW the recipes.  I purchased a copy of  Eva’s Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family and Friends Fab Friday Cooking In Stilettos Edition and I have to say, out of the flood of celeb cookbooks on the market, Eva Longoria’s cookbook seemed to be the most authentic.  She has some fab simple recipes in there along with some from her family and it’s a cookbook I will be using this spring & summer.  Well done!

5.  Finally – have you heard about the Philadelphia Science Festival?  Now, before you whap me upside the head ala NCIS Gibbs’ style, hear me out.  It’s got some seriously fascinating events at this festival that are geared to the curious foodie.  I mean, we’re talking about events centered around healthy eating, the science of beer and cheese, and a host of other fascinating events.  Check out their calendar – it looks intriguing!

I’m curious – what are you guys obsessed with this week?  Tell me in the comments!

Nigella Lawson To Visit Philadelphia, New York and More

What a year it has been for book-signings in the Philadelphia area – Giada de Laurentiis, Daisy Martinez, Tyler Florence, Bobby Flay, Barefoot Contessa and NOW one of my absolute favorites – Nigella Lawson.

I never really told you the story of how I started to understand that I really could cook, did I.  The long and the short of it is that I can credit Nigella as one of my first culinary inspirations along side of Colin Cowie.  When I lived in New Hampshire, I can distinctly recall watching her show when they aired episodes on the Style Network.  It was her recipe for “mushy peas” and her coca-cola ham that immediately had me tracking down my own copy of her cookbook.  Bec or Meowmix would tell you that I really didn’t attempt to cook from it but was more than happy to leaf through the pages like it was that month’s Vogue.  However, when I found my passion for cooking after my Bampa’s passing while living in Orlando, I’m happy to say that Nigella was one of my first “TV Teachers.”

Basically, to have an opportunity to meet her and say “Thank you!!!” well, you can only imagine how fab that is.  Plus, it’s only a few days after my b’day (39, thank youverymuch – NOT 40!) and Hyperion, Nigella & Williams Sonoma – thank you in advance for such an amazing b’day experience.

Nigella will be signing copies of her book, Nigella Kitchen: Recipes from the Heart of the Home Nigella Lawson To Visit Philadelphia, New York and More and, while I’m not sure of the rules and regulations, I’m sure it will be amazing!

So – without further ado – here is her book tour details direct from her publisher Hyperion and, of course, Philly peeps – WHO IS GOING?!?!?

Bobby Flay To Visit Philadelphia

BF-Throwdown

BF Throwdown 150x150 Bobby Flay To Visit PhiladelphiaThe holidays are fast approaching and, with that, are the celebrity chefs that will be on tour promoting their new cookbooks. I heard from a little bird that Food Network’s Bobby Flay will be visiting the Philadelphia area for a book signing of his new cookbook, Bobby Flay’s Throwdown!: More Than 100 Recipes from Food Network’s Ultimate Cooking Challenge Bobby Flay To Visit Philadelphia.

On Bobby’s tour schedule: two Williams-Sonoma locations – King of Prussia and  The Bellevue in Center City.   I was told that this will be a ticketed event and tickets go on sale on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Now, if you have ever been to these events, they do sell out quickly so you need to make sure you get your ticket early. I learned my lesson last year for an event with Martha Stewart. 350 people alone showed up for that one – don’t even get me started when Thomas Keller visited King of Prussia.

The event at King of Prussia starts at 1:00 p.m. and Center City’s Williams-Sonoma will start their signing with Bobby at 6:00 p.m. If you are going, let us know in the comments!

Here’s the full tour schedule from his publisher at Random House.

Sunny Anderson Visits Philadelphia

Last night I noticed that one of my fave people, Sunny Anderson, was going to be in Philly for a hot minute talking about her upcoming appearance at the Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival (huzzah! AC goes Foodie!)  Now, if you have never gone to one of these events, you really should – great people, great chefs and seriously to. die. for. food & wine.  LOVE these events.
Earlier today, Sunny dropped by Philly’s The 10! Show and demo’d her Flank Steak with Drunken Pepperswhich looks to be a fabulous summer dish.  C’mon, drunken peppers – you know you want to try that!

The recipe is for her killer Flank Steak Fajitas is here and if you do try it, let us know, will ya?  Sunny – glad you were in Philly – even if it was for a very short visit!
