Fab Friday – Travel Edition

I can put a checkmark by one of my Culinary Goals for 2012. I took the plunge and registered for not one but TWO blogging conferences this year – Bloggy Boot Camp in May here in Philly and Food Blog Forum Orlando in March.  Jen  at One Curly Fry has already started the countdown til #FBFOrl and this gal has to start prepping!

With a trip to Orlando on the calendar, that means a couple extra days visiting old friends and, of course, a dinner soiree at SL’s house. So, marinating on that, I figured I’d center this week’s Fab Friday around the Orlando trip.

x Fab Friday – Travel Edition

1. No matter where I go, I always hear “You’re Cooking in Stilettos – Where are your stilettos?” Granted this is at either a food festival where there is major walking to be had (I learned my lesson after I severely twisted my ankle in 4″ boots) or at a book signing where the lines are 2–3 hours long (if you think I’m going to stand for 2+ hours in 5″ stilettos, let me hand you a pair and you try that). I have, however, mastered the art of the wedge for these events. As I have some running around town to do, I probably will pack some favorite flats (my Tory Burch Teal Revas and the lighter than air Cole Haans – perfect for Disney), a pair or two of rockin’ stilettos for the soirees and, of course, my much beloved Mark + James Magnolia Wedge Sandals that I have yet to wear but just HAD to have. (Side note – I got them for a steal on HauteLook ages ago. You can always catch Mark + James on the sample sale sites lately.)

2. As some serious cooking is to be done at SL’s house (and I’m still hammering out the menu), I will need my trusty knives. I have never traveled with them before so I need to get this lovely Global Knife Case and pack it with my checked baggage.

3.  I’m debating on a signature cocktail or two for SL’s soiree and, as I am very fond of my Cruzan, I might have to play around a bit in the test kitchen. One thing that I know will be flowing will be the wine and I might have to swing by Crate and Barrel at the Millenia Mall to pick up some extra stemless wineglasses – just in case I drop a glass or two icon wink Fab Friday – Travel Edition

4. Speaking of bottles, everyone needs a good bottle opener. This Castle Key Bottle Opener would be perfect for SL as this would fit into his home décor perfectly. I swear – how he designs a room would make even Nate Berkus stand at attention.

5. One of the dishes I’m flirting with needs a dutch oven. This 5qt. Le Creuset Oval Dutch Oven in Ocean would be perfect. Could a gal pack her Le Creuset, I wonder (or should I just ship before I head down…hmmmm)

6. Whenever I entertain, some of most raved about recipes come from my collection of Nigella Lawson cookbooks. As it’s not on the kindle yet, I know I will be packing one of my first cookbooks from her, Nigella Bites: From Family Meals to Elegant Dinners — Easy, Delectable Recipes For Any Occasion Fab Friday – Travel Edition. I think SL has a couple other Nigella books in his cookbook arsenal, if I remember correctly.

What are your “must haves” when you travel to a blog conference or just to visit with friends?

Stock Up For Fall With Rue La La and Le Creuset

RLL-LeCreusetCitronDutchOven

RLL LeCreusetCitronDutchOven 150x150 Stock Up For Fall With Rue La La and Le CreusetYou know, when it comes to fall, there is always the inevitable soup or stew that needs to be made, short ribs that need to be braised and other goodies that call for a really good dutch oven. Well, I firmly believe there is no better dutch oven than Le Creuset and I have quite the Le Creuset collection that has me prepped for fall. However, I often add to it as these pieces are timeless, add some punch to my stovetop and, well, I also believe that they help me cook better.

I not only have to make chicken for the Sous Pug twice weekly in my Le Creuset, but also I’m making homemade chicken stock for him as he can’t have any with onions and garlic. And, if I’m simmering one chicken stock on the stove, why not make my household one too, right?  Just means I need TWO Le Creusets to keep everything organized.  One color for him, one color for the house.

Rue La La has a GREAT sale today on Le Creuset and they have a plethora of items in a ton of colors that will add a pop of color to your kitchen. From Caribbean to Citron to Cobalt to Red, you can’t go wrong. And a 7.25 qt. Dutch Oven for under $200 – oh yes PLEASE!

Not a member?  Don’t worry – we got you covered. You can sign up for free here.

And, when you are prepping some delish fall dishes in your Le Creuset, make sure to pass the love of Rue La La on to your readers, family and friends. No need to keep it all to yourself, right?

Happy Shopping!

Obsessed With Le Creuset Bistro Round Grill And Griddle Set

Le Creuset Grill & Griddle Set

I swear if I add ONE more Le Creuset piece to my already stocked kitchen, well – I think my kitchen cabinets might revolt.  If I add two – let’s not even go there.  However, the minute I saw these lovelies in my email, I found myself trying to do a bit of “Creative Accounting” which I normally employ when it comes to my shoe purchases. But, since the Le Creuset Bistro Round Grill & Griddle set IS in my favorite color, Ocean, serves a useful purpose and doesn’t take up much more room – I might have to make an exception. Plus – I can save money if I purchase the set, versus individually – hmmmm….

Excuse me a moment while I go reallocate some funds and, ummm – try to keep the angry cabinets at bay.

Fab Friday — Cooking In Stilettos Edition

What a day today! King of Prussia’s Williams-Sonoma hosted Bakerella‘s book-signing today and what a great success that was (plus, added bonus, in attendance was Leslie of And Her Little Dog Too and I always love catchin’ up with her!) Tomorrow, Jenn of The Leftover Queen comes to town and add to that, it’s the start of a very busy holiday season.  And, as if I’m NOT busy enough, I have some changes in store for Cooking In Stilettos so, yup, you guessed it, there is a lot going on in Lys’ world at the moment. Let’s take a quick moment and look at a few lovelies that made this week’s Fab Friday…

1. Can Mother Nature make up her mind – one day its 42 degrees and the next, it’s 65 degrees. Talk about confusing a gal. So, with the warm weather today, my mind turns to spring. Just in time, Gucci came out with their cruise collection and, besides the name bringing me back to a certain cruise where I racked up a killer cell bill talking to/texting BR from the Bahamas with Meowmix and crew, I made a conscious decision that these new <a href=“http://www.beso.com/rd2?t=http%3A%2F%2Flink.mercent.com%2Fredirect.ashx%3Fmr%3AmerchantID%3DBluefly%26mr%3AtrackingCode%3D822E9E80-5AA3-E011-973E-001517384908%26mr%3AtargetUrl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.bluefly.com%2FGucci-dark-pink-patent-” onclick=“javascript:_gaq.push([’_trackEvent’,‘outbound-article’,‘http://www.beso.com/rd2?t=http%3A%2F%2Flink.mercent.com%2Fredirect.ashx%3Fmr%3AmerchantID%3DBluefly%26mr%3AtrackingCode%3D822E9E80-5AA3-E011-973E-001517384908%26mr%3AtargetUrl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.bluefly.com%2FGucci-dark-pink-patent-’]);“Sofia’-platform-slingback-wedges%2Fcat20458%2F315294701%2Fdetail.fly%253freferer%253dca_shopzilla%2526cm_mmc%253dca_shopzilla-_-na-_-womens_shoes-_-315294701%2526partner%253dGate_CSE_shopzilla_Gucci_Pumps&mid=17236&catId=10110000&atom=10330&prodId=&oid=2589822257&pos=1&bId=18&bidType=0&bAmt=f6a916d748cdf64b&cobrand=44&rf=af1&af_assettype_id=10&af_creative_id=2793&af_id=59206&af_placement_id=1″ target=“_blank”>Gucci Sofia Patent Leather Straw Wedges in Nude MUST be in my closet for spring… No ifs, ands or buts about it.

2.  It’s no secret that my absolute favorite color is teal (or variations of it). It’s been like that since I went to Vegas many moons ago with Meowmix on vacay and, while wandering through a gift shop in the MGM, I discovered a gorgeous candle that was the most perfect shade of teal.   One of my “goals” is to transition my kitchen into a teal, copper and brown wonderland and Williams-Sonoma’s new exclusive Le Creuset shade of Ocean fit the bill. Don’t get me wrong, I still adore Cassis and Caribbean and still have my red LC’s but mark my words, this Le Creuset Ocean 4 1/4 Qt. Signature Deep Saute Pan will be in my kitchen by the holidays.

3. Colin Cowie hit another home run with his holiday tableware collection for HSN. These Brocade Martini Glasses are perfect for that gorgeous holiday cocktail or when you want to channel that “Mad Men” ambiance.

4. Daisy’s Holiday Cooking: Delicious Latin Recipes for Effortless Entertaining Fab Friday Cooking In Stilettos Edition is on my list of “must have” holiday cookbooks. When Ms. Daisy was in Philly over the summer, she had discussed some of the fab recipes that were slated to be in it and, finally, it’s been released! I have bought more cookbooks this holiday season than ever – and have every intention on using them!

5. With the holidays approaching, a trip has to be made to the Italian Market for me to stock up on goodies, gifts and treats for family and friends. One of my fave spots to grab a latte, people watch and enjoy a chocolate baci is Anthony’s Italian Coffee House & Chocolate House. They are pretty much almost right next to each other and the people that work there are so helpful. So, when you are wandering through the Italian Market and need to get out of the cold and wind, Anthony’s immense coffee selection will warm you right up!

Deal Alert: Le Creuset Revisits Rue La La

***Deal Alert***

I’d be remiss if I didn’t clue y’all into the Rue La La Le Creusetsale that is slated for September 24th – that’s this Friday.  I know, I know – I sound like a broken record but seriously – Le Creuset is one of the few brands I will spend full price on.  If I can get it on sale, EVEN BETTER!  I mean, every penny saved goes toward this gal’s Loubou Lust Fund.

You know what would make my day even better – if Rue La La had a Louboutin sale the same day.  Only then would I truly be making the leap from Louboutin to Le Creuset.

If you aren’t a member, what’s holding you back?  Check out Rue La La and sign up – it’s free!  You and your wallet will thank me later.
