Fab Friday – Cooking In Stilettos Edition

It has been a crazy week and, when looking at my calendar for October, it’s going to be a very busy October for Cooking in Stilettos.  If you happen to follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you might have noticed that I’ve been yappin’ about Emeril’s new cookbook, Kicked Up Sandwiches lately.  Well, I’m excited to tell y’all that this gal was selected to participate in Emeril’s Serious Sandwich Cookalong where, throughout October, you will see a few posts about my attempts at whipping some Kicked Up Sandwiches from his new cookbook (fyi – y’all are going to WANT this book. I kinda flagged the livin’ daylights with recipes to make from it already. It’s that good!).  In addition to that, there is some Secret Recipe Club action going on, both Michael Symon and the Barefoot Contessa are slated to hit town, Halloween is just around the corner and I’ve gotten some “content suggestions” from readers that will be gracing the blog.  Yes, you read that right – flashing back to my radio days, it’s kinda like a culinary DJ – I do pay attention to requests.  If you ever have a suggestion for something that you might want to see spotlighted on Cooking in Stilettos or have a question about anything– feel free to contact me. I have an “open inbox” policy.

In other news, on the Debbie Downer tip, if you don’t mind sending positive thoughts and prayers for my Sous Pug.  As y’all know, he’s had a rough time with the medical drama of the past year and a half.  Last week he went to the vet for his monthly “pawdicure” and they found a major ear infection in both ears – just when we thought he was finally healthy.  Hopefully they caught it just in time but with him being blind, I would hate for him to lose his hearing too which can happen with the meds he’s on (daggone side effects!).  At this rate, he’s becoming “Puggy Keller”. I keep saying I’m going to take his paw and teach him the word water if he keeps it up with his tantrums.

So – back to happy thoughts – Fab Friday is here and here are a few lovelies that have me obsessed this week.

Fab Friday – Cooking In Stilettos Edition

1. If you look at my stiletto arsenal, you might get the idea that I’m a bit obsessed with shoes from Elizabeth and James.  I Every shoe I have purchased from them has been so well made, looks fabulous and stands the test of time.   Currently, I’m obsessed with the Sire Snakeskin Ankle Boots. They are perfect for fall and remind me of a bootie I bought from E+J when I first moved to Philly. If the snakeskin look isn’t a fave for you, they have a rich black suede version as well.  Quite frankly, I could justify both being in the arsenal right now.

2. When chatting with Meowmix yesterday, she remarked that my “Fab Friday” shoe choices, while lovely, are not very low heeled and, quite frankly, she’s not able to rock a 4″ stiletto like she used to. With that being said, I stumbled upon a pair of booties that those that don’t want to rock a sky high stiletto but want something that they could wear with jeans and every day and these Allena booties from Pour La Victoire are gorgeous enough that I might even want to rock them myself. (Shush Meowmix – I can rock a lower heel too. C’mon now!)

3. The mailman has been very nice to me this fall season. In one week, I’ve gotten catalogs from Williams Sonoma, Crate and Barrel and Sur La Table.  Forget the fashion magazines – this is what I leaf through.  I don’t know if I should thank him or tell him that my wallet wants to revolt. One thing that is definitely on my radar is this Risotto Plus Maker from Breville. Now – here’s my argument why I think it should be in the kitchen.   At least once a week, I need to cook rice for the Sous Pug.   When he first started getting sick, I bought a {cheap} rice maker from Costco that is about on its last legs. If I’m going to use something continuously, well then I think I should get something like my slow-cooker where I use it often and for more than just the pug, ya know. In addition to making rice and risotto, this lovely is a steamer and you can sauté in it too. Applying a Cost Per Use theory, I think I might be adding this to the household this month.

4. This week, I have an inspired salad idea that I want to play with.  If it turns out well, I will disclose fully here.  When I start thinking recipes, I also think plating and, with plating it – do I want to have it in a salad bowl or on a platter? I have been lusting after this Acacia Salad Bowl set from Crate and Barrel for the longest and I’m trying to see if I really should finally take the plunge and get it. What say you?

5. When my ex and I first got our apartment together, he got this bright idea that we needed a fully stocked bar with every bit of glassware imaginable. As I was the one who had to pay for most of it, I still have much of that glassware which is taking up valuable real estate.  I really don’t like looking at it because it reminds me of a horrid situation so I have been seriously considering donating a lot of the things from that period to charity and replacing it with items that I adore. I saw these Bormioli Rocco Glasses from Macy*s and they look so fun! I might have to go take a trip there in person to check it out.  What do you think – too much?

6. I have a rule – I won’t even entertain the thought of decorating for Halloween until October 1st. However, I am seriously tempted to add this lovely to the kitchen and use it throughout the fall and winter.   How adorable is this Staub Pumpkin Covered Casserole?  I can picture it filled with my fave beef & butternut squash stew.

7. On the cookbook front, besides Emeril’s new cookbook, I finally caved and Nigella Lawson’s new cookbook, Nigellissima: Easy Italian-Inspired Recipes, is flying my way via England. I could have waited until February when it’s released here in the States but my impatient behind just couldn’t wait to see her take on Italian cooking and I had to buy it online.  There are so many good cookbooks coming out this fall that my wallet is ready to have a come to Jesus sesh with Amazon.

Have you started to decorate for fall / Halloween yet?
