August is finally here but Philly is hitting its 6th – count ‘em 6th heat wave from hell. Seriously, I’m praying for mother nature to hit us with a blizzard and soon. The poor SousPug gets outside and it’s like a wall of humidity to greet both of us. Pugs and heat = non-mixy things.
So, I’m consoling myself the only way I know how – virtual retail therapy from a nice air conditioned spot before I trek up to the cottage. SousPug has made it known that he wants to go on the next roadtrip and he will not do another sleepover at the vet’s for a while. Who am I to say no, right? So, this weekend, things should be quiet around Cooking In Stilettos and I have a host of goodies in store for you next week – pinky swear.
Let’s get to {virtual} shopping, shall we?
1. These Yves Saint Laurent Mirror Heel Platform Pumps are one of those statement stilettos. Love them – don’t know if I’d wear them, but definitely would admire!
2. These Mason Cash Pudding Bowls are gorgeous – I can just see me baking up a storm with these at the ready (preferably during one of my blizzard moments – who do I have to blackmail to get Mother Nature to turn up the AC and turn down the heat?) They look like they’d last forever and a day.
3. Can I tell you how many thermometers that just don’t seem to work for me when it comes to jam and sugar work? Seriously – I have gotten the cheapo, the digital – even the expensive laser and no luck! I wind up always waiting to see when everything is an even temperature. I think I’m going to have to test drive this Jam & Sugar Thermometer this fall for some Canning In Stilettos work. Let’s pray this one works!
4. One thing I really want to get this fall is a cookbook stand that will do my Bampa’s cookbook justice. I really love the detailing on this Cucina Cookbook Stand from NapaStyle. What do you think?
5. One thing I will never be parted with is my knives (and my Le Creuset). I can’t praise Global highly enough. Just when I got my knife block full, they come out with this Global Anniversary Utility Knife that I want. Guess I will need to install a knife magnet bar at this rate.
6. Remember when I told you about Sunny Anderson’s new line of fun t-shirts? Well, the day I told you about them, I ordered a couple lovelies, my Bust Chops T-Shirt and this High Steaks Apron. Last Friday, before I dashed up to Western Mass, I saw a package greeting me in my mailbox – the t-shirt and apron. Now how’s THAT for customer service. Major kudos! The apron, that’s going to be hanging out in Bampa’s Kitchen this weekend.
7. Packing for the cottage with the SousPug is like dealing with an entourage. He needs blankets, pillow, his meds, his toys, a dog bed, a cooler packed with his home-cooked diet, treats (lots of bananas, watermelon and honeydew or my shoes will bear the brunt of it), water and so on and so on. Me, what do I need – a few things, my laptop, camera and cookbooks to leaf through by the lake as I get a bit of writing in. Want to see what’s going with me? Cooking from the Farmers’ Market, Home Made
, and my latest issues of Artful Blogging and Where Women Create. No tabloids for this gal. I need culinary and creative inspiration – stat!
What’s on your agenda this weekend?

Please please let me know how Home made is! I’ve had it on my amazon wishlist for a while and after going to a food blogger retreat last weekend and picking up three new cookbooks, I’ve vowed not to get any new ones until I’ve worked my way through the ones I’ve got already.
