One of the things I’m so thankful for is my Dancin’ on Air/Dance Party USA Alumni family. We have been getting together over the years to celebrate various birthdays, marraiges or just because. With the resurgance of popularity of the show due to the recent Dancin’ on Air marathons and the vids popping up online recently, the alumni decided to put our best dancin’ foot forward and “party with a purpose”.
Recently, the Dancin’ Party Alumni hosted our first inagural benefit at one of Philly’s premiere fun spots, Dave & Busters, one Sunday afternoon where we raised almost $2,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society. This is a cause near and dear to our hearts as many of our alumni have battled the Big C and, sadly, one of our alum lost her fight and there’s not a day that goes by that we don’t think of Justine. Two other honorees that have faced cancer and won their battle were in attendance and it was awesome to see them take the stage. I’m hoping that they will have many more birthdays that we will be able to celebrate with them.
One other great thing about that night is that people who had not seen each other in over 20 years, just via messages on Facebook, were able to reconnect. Our own crew handled everything from the raffles to the the performances from various regulars, our own Romeo was the MC and the DJ of the night was the one and only Jimmy Jam – yes THAT Jimmy Jam for those who watched the show in the 80s, kept the dance floor hoppin’. It was an amazing event and having the the American Cancer Society be the first organization that we would be able to help was a huge honor.
When The SITS Girls, an amazing blogging community, talked about spotlighting the American Cancer Society’s work, I was only more than happy to help. Plus – I’m a sucker for Ricky Martin. Fun fact – did you know that he appeared on Dance Party USA & Dancin’ on Air during his Menudo days? Small world. So, would you be a doll, take a moment and please check out the vid below.
Many thanks to the American Cancer Society for all of their hard work!
