Recipe Redo: Balsamic BBQ Chicken

Balsamic-BBQ-Chicken

Another tried and true favorite that needed a recipe redo makeover was Giada's Balsamic BBQ Chicken. I can tell you that while she says you can use her Balsamic BBQ Sauce on steak or chicken, I pretty much only use it on chicken. I rarely cook steak in the house – probably because I have the fire alarms from hell. My poor neighbors know when I'm in a cooking frenzy because they hear the constant "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP" from those daggone alarms and I'm running around like a banshee with a … [Read more...]

Tried and True: Parmesan Creamed Corn

Parmesan Creamed Corn

The memories I have of creamed corn are not good, I hate to say. 99.9% of the time, it was out of a can and, in my opinion, was horrible. When I started to cook, I made a point to NEVER buy creamed corn and, if we were in some sort of survival mode and there was a can of creamed corn near me, I can pretty much guarantee it would remain unopened (at least by me). Much like pancakes, creamed corn was another dish I just could not stand. Giada recently did a comfort food episode and one of the … [Read more...]

Recipe Redo: Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes

Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes

Now that it's unofficially summer, it's no secret that berry season is fast approaching. I always try to keep blueberries on hand for long weekend brunch ideas because Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes from Giada de Laurentiis are one of my favorite tried and trues.  I figured that these blueberry ricotta pancakes were perfect for the recipe redo this time because the picture on the 2009 post made this gal wince and want a cocktail ASAP.  Ahhh - if I only knew then what I know now.  I also … [Read more...]

Tried and True: Roasted Cipollini Onions

Balsamic Roasted Cipollini Onions

It never fails - whenever I head to the Italian Market, I always pick up cipollini onions. The same goes for when they cross my path at Whole Paychex or Wegmans. I love roasting them with potatoes as a quick side dish and there's this tried and true recipe that I can't believe that I haven't shared with you yet - Giada de Laurentiis' Roasted Cipollini Onions. This recipe couldn't be any easier - blanch the onions, roast them with some balsamic vinegar and you have a side dish that will be asked … [Read more...]

Recipe Redo: Herb Mustard Glazed Salmon

Herb Mustard Glazed Salmon

One of my favorite tried and true recipes is Giada de Laurentiis Broiled Salmon with a Herb Mustard Glaze. It's one of those super quick meals out of a few pantry items. I follow a simple rule - if I plan on making fish - I buy it the day I plan on serving it. The guys at Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting are so good - they send me home not only with a gorgeous piece of salmon, but they remove the skin (if asked), and put it with a nice bag of ice to keep it cold on the way home. How thoughtful, … [Read more...]

Tried and True: Giada’s Tri-Color Orzo Salad

Tri Color Orzo Salad

For SL's dinner party, we played it simple – serving the Chicken Sauvignon Blanc with a flavorful tri-color orzo salad from Giada de Laurentiis. With all the hustle and bustle going on in SL's kitchen (I was trying to save a banana pudding dessert that kinda went the wrong way), I didn't take the multitude of pics I normally do with a recipe. However, as SL and crew will attest, once it was plated, I flew out to the dining room to get the beauty shot. … [Read more...]

Tried and True – Giada’s Cheesy Baked Tortellini

Baked Toretllini - After Oven

There's a 90% chance that if you look in my fridge or freezer, you might find a package or two of ravioli, gnocchi or tortellini for quick weeknight meals. It's a pantry staple that has saved my butt on more than one occasion when I need to whip up something scrumptious but have little to no energy to make anything that takes a ton of thought. Instead of pairing some of my fave tortellini with some marinara, I decided to give Giada de Laurentiis' Cheesy Baked Tortellini a spin.  Most of the … [Read more...]

Giada de Laurentiis Heads Back To Philly For Weeknights With Giada

Weeknights with Giada

The 2012 Cookbook Season has begun, my friends. And, to kick it off will be one of my faves, Giada de Laurentiis. Giada de Laurentiis has written her latest, Weeknights with Giada: Quick and Simple Recipes to Revamp Dinner, and it will be in stores starting March 27th.   For us Philly peeps, we have some great news - she will be visiting the Williams Sonoma in King of Prussia on March 29, 2012 at noon. As always, it will be a packed house so, a bit of advice - wear the flats and leave the … [Read more...]

Cozy Up With A Bowl of Winter Minestrone

Winter Minestrone Soup

Philly got a bit of a present over the weekend in the form of freezing rain and snow galore. With the freezing rain that turns the hills of Manayunk into skid central, it was a weekend in for this gal. The Sous Pug didn't fare well with the snow as he is now officially completely blind and could only slide down the sidewalks and stand bewildered on the freezing snow banks that he bravely attempted to climb. He pretty much was ready to pack his toys and head back to Florida. The good thing about … [Read more...]

Recipe Redo – Panettone Bread Pudding With A Dash Of Cherries and Rum

Panettone Bread Pudding Fresh From The Oven

One of my goals for 2012 is to go through some of the utterly "food blogging newbie" posts when I first started and redo the recipe with new photos and, occasionally, play with the recipe a bit.  Hard to believe that it will be 4 years for Cooking In Stilettos this March. For the holidays, one of the desserts that is often requested is Giada's Panettone Bread Pudding with Warm Cinnamon Syrup. I originally wrote about it in 2008 and decided to document it again but add my own little twist to … [Read more...]
