Reflections From The Lake

View of the Lake - Cottage

Last week had me dropping everything and racing up to Western Mass for a family matter. Thankfully, all turned out well but it gave me a lot of time to think about where I am and where I want to be. I took some time to reflect while staying at my family’s cottage in Connecticut. Growing up, I spent many a weekend at the cottage and, yes, that is where Bampa's kitchen is. It's hard not to look at the side porch and not recall running inside to grab a corn fritter or to see what Bampa had … [Read more...]

Heading Back To OTown For Food Blog Forum

Funny Bird Flying South

I have to say, since moving to Philadelphia a few years ago, my travel wings have been somewhat clipped.  Now - I do jaunt to NYC every so often but there's something about hopping a plane and heading south in the winter.  Now - Philly hasn't had much of a winter and our weather has been pretty much on par with Orlando for the past couple of weeks but I'm not whining.  Last year was pretty horrid with all that happened with the Sous Pug after I returned from South Beach Food & Wine and my … [Read more...]

When Techs Get Stuck on Stupid

StuckOnStupid

First of all – if you tried to access Cooking In Stilettos over the weekend and saw the site was down, I deeply apologize. It was a situation that was beyond my control and I had nothing but drama trying to get everything back up and running. As y'all know, I'm not an IT wizard of any sort. My learning is totally trial by fire and, when I have a tech at my hosting company tell me something is wrong, normally I take it at face value and I work with them to a resolution.  With Hostgator - I … [Read more...]

Cooking In Sneakers All Thanks To The Trusty Ballet Flat

Painful Heels

Yup - you read that right - this stiletto wench got served at the doctor's today and given the worst news I could ever hear "Aly - until further notice, it's sneakers for you." For the past 6 months, I had a bit of a "mishap" shall we say and my left foot has been driving me batty.  I invested in some of my favorite flats from Tory Burch and Cole Haan this winter and was stoked to be wearing them as I ran around Orlando next weekend for Food Blog Forum.    I know Disney is crazy and there … [Read more...]

Weekly Question: Meal Planning

questionmark.jpg

Let's revive the weekly question, shall we? This week's question: Do You Plan Your Meals For The Week?   I have to confess - I do not. I'm one of those gals who wanders through the grocery store and buys what she thinks might be perfect for the week and, quite frankly, my wallet (and this blog) is ready to kick my butt to Timbuktu. I plan the Sous Pug's meals weekly and his grocery list looks like this: 5 lbs. chicken or pork, 2 lbs. pasta, bananas (for treats), fresh watermelon … [Read more...]

The Latest Sous Pug Developments

Wiggy-Mary

It's been a pretty tough six months - between the Sous Pug's multiple diagnoses, switching to a new (and fabulous vet) who finally figured out what was wrong, to major surgery for both his bladder stones and pancreatitis, and now we're prepping for Surgery No. 2. … [Read more...]

Cooking In Stilettos Graduates

CinS-180x180

After many months of wrangling, arguing and dealing with the domain brokers from hell (more on that another day - I'd need too much Cruzan to write about that mess), CookingInStilettos.org finally graduated to CookingInStilettos.com.  I never thought I would see the day but it is one that must be celebrated.  Granted there were some other changes behind the scenes, but I had to share. Transitioning this monstrous blogbeast over to a new domain was a whole comedy of errors and, if it wasn't … [Read more...]

Busy Busy Bee – Philly Is Dancin On Air

DPUSA-AMC-OnTheSet-1988-GDC-2

Life has taken quite the turn - moreso than usual. Of course I have the daily 9to9, but have been wrapped up with Wigg's new medical developments (they found a growth they need to biopsy - fun fun! He's going to be a surgery regular at his vet hospital at this rate) and cooking for me hasn't been as much of a priority as it has been cooking for him. The dog goes through about 5 pounds of chicken a week - let's not even calculate the amount of rice that has to be made. Anywhoo, as I was saying, … [Read more...]

Decisions Decisions – Kitchen Island v. iPad 2

French Kitchen Island

For some time now, I've been wrestling with a big purchase decision.  See, when it comes to stilettos or a Le Creuset purchase, the inner shopping dialogue is pretty easy – mainly "Is it a good deal?  Will you use it?  Is it stunning?  Will the purchase make you regret it at all?" and I either purchase or I don't.  For really major purchases, I employ a 24/48 hour waiting period and go from there. Recently, I have been torn between two major purchases. I have been lusting after … [Read more...]

Lesson Learned: Always Check Those Receipts

wlEmoticon-winkingsmile.png

An interesting thing happened to me recently when I dropped by the local Whole Paychex.  During the summer, I often buy a bunch or two of fresh mint to make my fave watermelon salad.  On this trip, I threw a small bunch of mint into the basket along with a host of other goodies.  When it comes to checking out, I don't know about you but when I put things on the belt, I keep an eye on the screen to make sure everything comes through correctly.  Well, this day I did not and … [Read more...]
