The ingredients are
Wanty to know the ingredients for the popular garlic mayo sauce? Garlic mayo is a simple mixture of egg yolks, garlic cloves and lemon juice.
The base for this condiment can be mayonnaise, avocado oil or a combination of the two. It’s best to use fresh garlic because it has a milder flavour than pre-minced cloves.
If you don’t have any on hand, feel free to substitute with dried chopped onion instead!
Avocado oil
Avocado oil is an excellent choice for mayonnaise made with avocado oil. It’s high in monounsaturated fats, which are known to help lower cholesterol and promote heart health.
Avocado oil also contains vitamin E, folate, potassium and other nutrients that benefit skin health.
Avocado oil can be found at most grocery stores or online retailers such as Amazon and Thrive Market (for less than $10 per bottle).
If you don’t want to buy a whole bottle at once but would like to try it out before committing yourself fully to the product, consider buying an avocado oil sampler pack from Thrive Market–they offer several different varieties so you don’t have to commit yourself now if you’re not sure if this will be your favorite way forward!
Egg yolks
Who doesn’t love eggs?!
Egg yolks are a rich source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
They’re also high in cholesterol; however, this can be controlled by choosing organic eggs if possible. Eggs are a good source of riboflavin (vitamin B2), selenium and vitamin B12.
Garlic cloves, finely chopped
You’ll want to chop the garlic cloves with a knife, not a food processor or blender. A sharp chef’s knife will do the trick nicely.
You can also use pre-minced garlic in a jar if you don’t have any fresh on hand, but make sure it doesn’t contain any other ingredients besides minced garlic–some brands add salt or oil as preservatives and other additives that may affect the consistency of your mayonnaise later on down the road!
Lemon juice
Lemon juice is a key ingredient in garlic mayonnaise.
The acidity of the lemon juice adds flavor, but it also acts as a cleanser for your body! Lemon juice can be used in many recipes to add a nice acidic kick.
Mayonnaise, store bought or homemade
Garlic mayo is a mixture of mayonnaise and garlic.
Mayonnaise is made from eggs, oil and vinegar. The egg yolks act as an emulsifier and allow the ingredients to blend together smoothly without separating over time.
This can be done with store-bought or homemade mayonnaise–although homemade versions tend to have less sugar and preservatives than those you’d find at the grocery store (which is why we recommend making your own).
When it comes to garlic, there are two main types: hardneck and softneck varieties.
Hardnecks produce cloves that grow under ground like bulb onions do; these are typically larger than softnecks but also contain fewer cloves per bulb because they take longer to mature due to their depth underground where conditions aren’t ideal for growth.[1]
