Tailgating season is in full swing and whether it’s at the game or a casual football soiree at home, you can guarantee there will be wings on the menu. Buffalo, fire blazin’ hot wings, honey barbeque or even plain – wings are something that people just love.
I didn’t really appreciate a really good wing until I moved to Chicopee, MA way back when. There was a wing place on the corner near the house that only specialized in wings and while I’m more of a mild gal (spice and I are slowly getting better acquainted), my ex was all about the super spicy burn your mouth wings. Because of that, we would have a couple types of wings whenever wings were on the menu. Since then, I’ve always been about offering variety at parties so for those that like somethin’ different, I love having a spicy sweet option for them.
One thing that is a constant whenever you have wings – they are MESSY! You can either have plenty of napkins available but, y’all know – they don’t always get that sticky sauce off and rather than have it on the furniture, the walls, the door knobs – you name it – I put a subliminal message near the wings with a small basket of Wet-Nap wipes so my friends and family can enjoy their wings and give this gal some peace of mind too. Scrubbing honey barbeque sauce off a door handle thanks to sticky wing sauce fingers is not my idea of fun.
Now – while you can make wings from scratch – sometimes a really good wing is only as far away as your grocer’s freezer. When it comes to Buffalo wings, I prefer to leave it to the experts. I adore Tyson Any’Tizers wings and they have saved my stilettos on more than one occasion when I needed to whip up a quick casual get together. For this weekend’s events, I headed to WalMart to get some Any’Tizers wings in both the Buffalo Style and Honey BBQ Seasoned as well as some Wet-Nap wipes and I was prepped and ready for kickoff!
With any wings, I’m of the opinion that a really good dipping sauce is a must. Something to cool down and temper that heat – to add a little zing to that bite of crispy chicken and sticky sauce. Of course, one can always serve some bottled salad dressing but why not go that extra mile and make a dip that is full of flavor but a bit lighter on the waistline. This Herbalicious Ranch Dip recipe is perfect for both the Buffalo Style and Honey BBQ flavors. I made it a little lighter with some Greek yogurt and added a slew of fresh herbs. I was chopping so much, my cutting board turned green for a bit, so you know it was full of fresh flavor.
So – when you have wings on the menu, why not whip up this Herbalicious Ranch Dip to go with – it’s a winning dip!
