Foodie Find – Brooklyn Creamery Single and Double Cream and In-Store Event #BKCreamery

When I first started on my culinary journey so many eons ago, I remember scouring the local supermarket in OTown looking for “Double Cream” because one of my favorite cookbooks, Nigella Bites, often used it in the recipes. I’d get the “huh” “whah?” blank stares from the clerks as if I was batty and I knew I wasn’t reading the recipe wrong. Google taught me that while I may love my Brit cookbooks and foodie mags, double cream wasn’t always easily available over here – nor was “single cream.”  I could substitute the American equivalent “heavy cream” or “light cream” but from what my friends who were overseas told me “it’s NOT the same.”

While grocery shopping at the local Giant this week, I happened to come across these lovelies…

I did a double take, saw that they were on sale and bought a few to play with. When I got home, I pulled some of my Brit cookbooks off the cookbook shelf for some research and I’m plotting a few “culinary experiments” that I will be sharing with you soon.

Here’s what I loved hearing about Brooklyn Creamery and their brand new products.  They use rBST free milk with no artificial ingredients, no added salts or sugars and no carbs. It’s kosher, gluten free and not ultra pasteurized. It’s rich and creamy, much like a sour cream or a crème fraiche but without the tang. It’s all natural fresh dairy cream and if that is wrong I don’t want to be right.

Think about it – you can dollop a bit of the Brooklyn Creamery Single Cream in some scrambled eggs for that rich and creamy quality that you can find in a 5star restaurant. Swirl it into a homemade soup to add a bit of texture and to thicken it up.  Brooklyn Creamery Double Cream can be whipped into an airy spreadable delight or used in desserts like mousses, cakes and more. The creative options are endless.

I, for one, am so excited to get to work with these lovelies and I will be sharing a recipe with you coming soon. Sweet or savory – only time will tell but you know the recipe will be tried and true and I hope to inspire you to give this product a whirl.
