I have a recipe to share with you that is a must for your next cookout and it couldn’t be easier to make – Philly Cheesteak Hot Dogs.

Philly peeps – cover your ears before we start getting into the “hot dogs can’t be steaks” argument which then tends to go into who makes a better cheesesteak, with whiz or without, “wit or witout” onions, Pat’s or Geno’s (for me – it’s all about Jim’s on South Street) and so on. Happy July y’all! Have you finalized your weekend cookout menu yet? I have a last minute addition that will deliver on flavor and have your guests raving about your culinary genius – a Kona Coffee Spice Rub that will take your favorite steak, burger or chicken to new flavorful heights!

The 4th of July is always a fun time here in one of the cities that was home to our country’s Founding Fathers. I have been a history buff since my college days and the Revolutionary War and Colonial times is fascinating to me. Philly has a huge 4th of July Celebration and I’m looking forward to seeing some amazing shows including Philly’s own Leslie Odom, Jr. (aka Aaron Burr) from the Broadway smash Hamilton performing. I don’t know about you but I have had the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat and if you haven’t listened to it – give it a shot. I find the wordplay brilliant and the vocals are on point! When looking for an easy appetizer or snack, this Philly Steak Style RITZwich is perfect every single time. Being that I’m a Philly gal, I’m a bit partial to the flavors of a good Philly steak and, of course, we all have our favorite places to get that iconic sandwich. However, what if you don’t want a huge sub layered with steak, provolone and, if you are like me, want that steak “wit” with caramelized onions, these Philly Steak Style RITZwiches are a chic twist on a classic.

On a recent grocery trip to my local ACME Market, I picked up my favorite buttery RITZ crackers which are always a fabulous addition to any party. I keep some on hand for last minute guests and I can always whip up a great party bite with them as a must have ingredient. I also use them for a myriad of recipes from using them as a delicious breading for entrees, serving with a steaming bowl of sour or just because. Who can’t resist these delicious crackers, right?

Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls With Zesty Provolone Cheese Dip #10DaysofTailgate

Philly is known for a few things – freedom, rabid love of sports and, of course, the cheesesteak. When I first moved here, I remember seeing Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls on menus of many of my favorite restaurants and they are often served with a spicy ketchup of sorts. They are rich, delicious and have the familiar flavors in a crisp bite and would be perfect for a tailgate.

Now – I love egg rolls but I figured I’d play a bit and make a version that is baked. I’ve seen a number of recipes where they suggest premade frozen steak slices, deli roast beef or ground beef but I would lose my Philly card in a heartbeat if I ever thought of going that route. Nope – it was all about ribeyes and provolone for today’s experiment. One tip for the ribeyes – put them in a freezer for an hour or so before you thinly slice them – it’s much easier that way.

To take these Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls over the top, I took a cue from this recipe from Rachael Ray and whipped up a zesty provolone cheese dip and that, in my opinion, trounced the typical spicy ketchup option. Also, with Philly cheesesteaks, you have two options – “Wit” or “Witout” onions and peppers so, when making a batch of these for your next tailgate give your guests a choice – some wit the sauteed onions and peppers and others witout.
