There’s a story behind the creation of these homemade Captain Morgan Chocolate Chip Cookies like with any cocktail-esque creation or any of my boozy bite recipes.

In college, I fell in love with all things Captain Morgan thanks to a dear friend who constantly had a Captain & Coke in hand.  Confession – there was one time during a Criminal Justice class where I went to take a sip of his coke only to find it was a bit “spirited” with a touch of Captain – talk about a bit of a surprise.  Since my college days, when I want a cocktail with a bit of comfort, I will often pour a Captain & Coke.

This dear friend was an MP in the National Guard.  When he and his unit deployed to Croatia and Bosnia, I was tasked with sending care packages from our crew.  One thing he always mentioned was the lack of Captain Morgan on base.  However, with rules, I couldn’t just ship him some bottles of his favorite rum.  So – after a bit of thought, these homemade Captain Morgan Chocolate Chip Cookies were born.  …

This smooth and silky Toasty Coconut Cocktail from CookingInStilettos.com has the familiar flavors of of the popular Toasted Almond drink with a coconut twist | @CookInStilettos

This post has been sponsored by Silk Nutchello. My opinion and love for the brand is my own.

Spring has arrived. Actually, it feels like summer but who is complaining, right? The birds are chirping, the sun is hsining and flowers are bloming everywhere! One thing I love about the good weather is enjoying a fab cocktail on the back porch and enjoying the weather. Today, I have a cocktail that is perfect to welcome spring with – The Toasty Coconut Cocktail.

Sometimes when I’m looking to switch up my cocktail game, I love experimenting with new flavors and products. Lately, I have been trying to limit dairy so I have been using Silk’s products in various recipes. While perusing the store, I spotted their new Nutchello products in some pretty delicious flavors. I saw the Toasted Coconut + Cashew and couldn’t resist giving that a try.  Nutchello also comes in these scrumptious Caramel Almond + Cashews and Dark Chocolate + Walnuts flavors.  Any of these are a delicious sip on its own, stirred into coffee or whirled into a smoothie.

Roasted Harvest Fruit Sangria With A Homestyle Twist

August 23, 2014 by Aly 18 Comments

The flavors of fall in a glass - spices and wine meld with roasted fruit, apple cider and a touch of spirit for the ultimate Roasted Harvest Fruit Sangria! | Cooking In Stilettos

I saw something the other day that shook me a bit …  the leaves on the trees are starting to turn.  Last I checked it was August – not October.  Now – y’all know Fall is my favorite season – the apples, the pumpkins, the boots and the wardrobe – just a few of my favorite fall things.  However, it’s August – would it be wrong to break out some early harvest festivity?

Williams-Sonoma, one of my homes away from home, challenged me to whip up a sangria recipe that had a bit of a juicer twist and, after marinating on the idea for a while, I thought why not try to replicate one of my absolute favorite sangrias I ever had – the Harvest Sangria from Amada restaurant here in Philly.  The key to any good sangria (besides the wine, of course) is fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices.  Now – while there is no cranberry action happening just yet around here, I figured I’d go with more of an apple spin with some of my favorite warm spices, my favorite wine from a local winery and a bit of a home-style twist – some homemade apple cider.  Now – if you want to use store bought – that’s fine – but there’s something about freshly made apple cider that makes you want to break out the boots, the cozy sweaters and curl up in front of a fire….

Add A Dash of Hollywood Glamour With An Oscar Themed Cocktail

February 27, 2011 by Aly Leave a Comment

There’s something magical about the Oscars (and no, not a what the heck will James Franco do now type of amazement).  Sadly, the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival often conflicts with the Oscars and I won’t be able to partake in an Oscar parties that are around Philly.  However, should you be looking for a little cocktail inspiration for your soiree tonight, check out these dreamy libations courtesy of the fab gals over at Nike Communications.

Natalie Portman gave a stirring performance in this year’s psychological thriller, The Black Swan.  Mimic her  her transformation from the White Swan to the Dark Swan in a cocktail.

white_lady - Black Swan

The White Lady

  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 2 oz. Gin
  • 3/4 oz. Lemon juice

Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.

Black Ice - Black Swan

Black Ice

  • 3 oz. Cointreau Noir
  • Ice cubes

Pour over ice and enjoy

If you adore Facebook and loved the movie The Social Network, well then you MUST try the All-Nighter created by Boston mixologist, Scott Marshall of Drink.  Scott – you had me at the mere mention of coffee!

The All Nighter - Social Network

The All-Nighter

  • 2 ½ oz. Rye Whiskey
  • ½ oz. Benedictine Liqueur
  • Muddled fresh coffee beans

Build in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and stir. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

The one movie I MUST see this year is The Fighter.  Mark Wahlberg has transitioned nicely from hip hop artist to consummate actor.  I know whatever movie he is in will be a good one (well, besides Planet of the Apes but we won’t discuss that!).  Check out this cocktail inspired by Mark & Christian Bale’s stirring performances

Blood and Sand - The Fighter

Blood & Sand

  • 2 oz Dewar’s 12 Blended Scotch Whiskey
  • 1 oz cherry liqueur
  • 1 oz red (sweet) vermouth
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Finally, in what has been lauded as one of the best movies of 2011, The Kings Speech, check out this amazing libation.

Sapphire Royal Tea - Kings Speech

Bombay Sapphire Royal Tea

  • 2 oz. BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Gin
  • 1 oz. Earl Grey Tea Infused Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz. Fresh lemon
  • 1 oz. Egg white
  • ¾ oz. Fresh lemon juice
  • ½ Rock candy
  • 2 Dashes orange bitters
  • Topped with a Bitter Orange Espuma*

Combine gin, tea infused simple syrup and lemon juice in a shaker over ice, shake vigorously. Double strain into a tea cup. Beat espuma mix until thick and foamy, spoon into tea cup, on top of Sapphire mixture. Put a pinch of tea leaves in center, garnish with a stick of orange bitters rock candy on the side of the tea saucer.
